Dan Folsom, PE – President

Dan was born and raised in the small west-central Minnesota city of Parkers Prairie. After graduation he attended the University of Minnesota where he studied Civil Engineering. Upon graduation in 1990 Dan joined a small environmental engineering consulting firm in Minneapolis and furthered his career with an international consulting firm working out of their office in St. Paul focusing in the fields of water and wastewater treatment engineering.

In the late 1990s Dan moved back to his small town roots in Alexandria, MN and expanded his experience to include rural municipal engineering. In 2008 he pursued a lifelong dream of being a business owner and joined Design Tree Engineering to establish the Civil Engineering Department and become a leader and principal of the firm.

Since 2008 Dan has led the growth of Design Tree from 7 employees, one engineering discipline, and one office to a staff of over 20, four professional disciplines and offices in Alexandria and St. Cloud. His core belief of delivering quality consulting engineering supported by a high level of service has resonated with the clients and markets Design Tree serves.

Joe Nicolson, PE, SE – Lead Structural Engineer

Joe has 19 years of experience in structural design of new projects and renovations. He will play a key role in providing structural engineering services to the company’s clients. Nicholson’s past experience includes structural engineering for healthcare, educational and airport facilities, as well as, retail developments and bridges. His expertise using Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) to strengthen concrete is very valuable for renovation projects. Nicholson holds a B.S.C.E. degree from North Dakota State University, and a master’s degree in structural engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Jeremy Anderson, PE – Vice President, Civil Engineering Team Leader

Jeremy Anderson is the Civil Engineering Team Leader for Design Tree Engineering. He manages project activity, budgets and deadlines, maintains client contact, ensures the accuracy of the company billings, and is an integral part of the company’s quality control program. Jeremy assists municipalities with infrastructure evaluation, project planning and working with public policy issues. He has successfully managed complicated projects that require extensive permitting, approvals and coordination with governmental agencies.

Prior to joining Design Tree Engineering, Jeremy was an on site Construction Engineer for an international, multidisciplinary, civil engineering firm. He managed the construction of projects, solved construction issues and made certain the projects were built to specifications. Later, he applied his field expertise to his work with municipalities and site engineering.

Jeremy received his Civil Engineering degree, and a M.S. in Infrastructure Systems Engineering from the University of Minnesota.

Aaron R. Mueller, PE, LEED AP – Electrical Team Leader

As Electrical Team Leader, Aaron directs the electrical design of various building types, manages team members and project workloads. He is responsible for quality management, development of standards, business development, client consultations and long term planning.

His experience includes power distribution design, standby power systems, lighting designs for buildings, pathways and roadways, SCADA systems, arc flash surveys, power quality studies, product research, specification preparation, quality assurance, and construction inspections. Aaron has directed the electrical design on a variety of projects including health care facilities, educational facilities, city halls, public works, fire stations, police stations, recreational sports facilities, street projects, in addition to water and wastewater treatment facility electrical power distribution and control system designs.

Aaron knows that a project is only as successful as the project owner perceives it to be. Aaron takes care to understand the project owner’s needs and is dedicated to providing them with a high level of technical service and client dedication.

Before joining Design Tree Engineering, he was the Electrical Discipline Leader for an international, multidisciplinary, civil engineering and building services firm. Aaron received his Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering, from North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota.

Chris Schaefer – Mechanical Team Leader

As Mechanical Team Leader, Chris is responsible for activity of the mechanical design team and its support staff. This includes resource management, technical development, financial performance and long term planning.

He has over 15 years of experience in the HVAC industry as a project manager, team leader, designer, installer, service technician, and digital controls manager. His project experience includes K-12 schools, universities, government centers, medical facilities, churches and commercial buildings.

Chris understands the importance of listening to the customer’s input and providing them with a high level of service. His goal is to manage the customer’s expectations to assist in delivering successful building projects by paying close attention to detail, energy efficiency, budgets, and total cost of ownership.

Chris earned an AAS Degree in HVAC from the St. Cloud Technical College.

Jon Schuette, RLS – Land Surveying Team Leader

As Land Surveying Team Leader, Jon is responsible for land survey personnel, delegating assignments to field crews and the preparation of survey data. He is actively involved in client consultations, project management and surveys.

Jon earned his AAS degree in Land Surveying/Civil Engineering Technology from St. Cloud Technical & Community College, St. Cloud, Minnesota. He then graduated from St. Cloud State University with a B. S. degree in Land Surveying and Mapping Sciences, a program accredited by the Applied Science Accreditation Commission (ASAC) of Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). He is a member of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) and the Minnesota Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS).

Jon and his team utilize the latest technology to provide clients with data that accurately depicts existing field conditions. He understands that clear communication, and integrity, is vital to a successful client relationship. His strong work ethic is reflected in the quality of his fieldwork and an exceptional level of accuracy.
